20-Minute Lesson Format

Figure skating is a sport of medium duration. What does that mean? Since the duration of a skater’s short and long program is between 120-480 seconds, the best way to train is four sets of five minute intervals.

This makes structuring a 20 minute lesson relatively easy to plan. A sample breakdown of what skaters need would be:

  • Speed of movement (quick twitch focus)
  • Speed endurance (long twitch muscle focus)
  • Power
  • Acceleration
  • Lactate tolerance
